It's awful the way these supermarkets package something such as a swede, that God has given a most excellent natural packaging in a second layer of landfill clogging carbon producing plastic. For several month's now the Independent has been waging a campaign against waste. (see left)
Saturday's Indy carried a story about an Asda pilot scheme to reduce waste, whereby shoppers were encouraged to dump unnecessary waste right there.
Here the manager discusses the contents of a bin of unwanted plastic and cardboard:
"You're never going to do without packaging," he said. "But this reveals what the customers - and not we - consider unnecessary."
